HON WANYONYI URGES THE GOVERNMENT TO REVIVE YOUTH POLYTECHNICS TO ACCOMMODATE WEAK STUDENTS

 

Westlands MP, Hon Tim Wanyonyi has asked the Government through the Ministry of Education to revive youth polytechnics as key centres for vocational training. He said majority of the village polytechnics in the Country have been neglected and therefore shunned by potential students. The MP lamented that the Government’s conversion of technical training institutions to universities, has locked out many students from pursuing technical training. Hon Tim Wanyonyi reiterated his efforts towards reviving Kangemi Youth Polytechnic. The institution has received a fully constructed Administration Block and 4 tution facilities through the Westlands CDF. Close to sixty students have also received full bursary sponsorship to the institution through the CDF Education kitty.

The MP was speaking during the handing over of a fully furnished and equipped computer lab at Loresho Primary School on Thursday, October 22, 2015. The Hon MP was accompanied by the Kitisuru Ward Member of the County Assembly, Hon Alvin Olando. The MCA pledged to support the MP’s development activities. Education Officials who participated at the ceremony were the Westlands Sub County Quality Assurance and Standards Education Officer, Ms Esther Kimani together with the Parklands Zone TAC Tutor Mrs Grace Owinga.

Loresho Primary School Head Teacher, Mrs Halima Wangara received the facility and pledged to utilize it appropriately for the benefit of the pupils. The school has a population of 1,140 pupils and is the fifth school to benefit from the Westlands Computer Labs Project initiated by Westlands MP, Hon Tim Wanyonyi.  Kangemi youth Polytechnic has also benefited from the programme, which is a personally sponsored by the MP in partnership with other private stakeholders.
