108 Youth, Women and Persons with Disability groups from Westlands Constituency were on Friday, February 6, 2015 issued with Uwezo Fund Cheques worth KES 9 million in a delightful event held at the Highridge Secondary School Hall, Highridge Ward.

Westlands MP Hon Tim Wanyonyi who is the Constituency Patron of the fund urged the recipients of the loan to use the loans prudently in line with the intended purpose. He said that proper use of the loans will enable them to lift their socio-economic status and create more jobs.

Hon Wanyonyi also called upon Persons with Disability (PWDs) not to sit back and beg. He said that they should identify what they can do however small.

“I am an example. I will ensure all people with disability are engaged in development activities. The time of sitting back for people to feed us is over,” Wanyonyi said.

He also beseeched more Youth, Women and PWD groups to apply for the Uwezo funds.  Westlands was allocated KES 15.5 million by the Uwezo Fund board and only KES 9 million has been disbursed.

The MP also said mentioned that Uwezo fund is a loan and must be paid back and not misused.

The Westlands Sub County Commissioner Mrs Flora Mworoa told the groups not to engage in illegal businesses.

Finally, the Westlands Uwezo Fund Chairperson Mrs Lillian Ngoge asked the groups to make strides to repay the loan early in order to qualify for a second allocation.
