Shinyalu MP, Hon Silvers Lisamula has celebrated Westlands MP, Hon Tim Wanyonyi’s efforts in promoting education in Westlands Constituency. Hon Lisamula lauded the Westlands MP, for his ICT project in the Constituency, which he said will go a long way in promoting computer literacy among the students. The legislator was speaking at Lower Kabete Primary School during a ceremony to open a fully equipped computer lab donated by Westlands MP, Hon Wanyonyi, on Friday, October 23, 2015.
Speaking at the event, Westlands MP Hon Tim Wanyonyi said the integration of ICT in teaching and learning in Kenya is still under developed. He said the current teaching curricular is yet to fully adopt digital content as its main tool of knowledge, therefore denying students the relevant ICT exposure. Hon Wanyonyi urged the Government to implement its promise of initiating ICT learning to all learning institutions in Kenya. He however recommended to the Government installation of computer labs as opposed to providing each pupil with a laptop or computer. The MP said Computer Labs were more sustainable in providing relevant school based digital content the students required.
The ceremony was hosted by the school fraternity led by the Head Teacher, Ms Jackline Okwaro. Westlands Sub County Education Officer, Mr Mburu Kimando together with the Parklands Zone TAC Tutor Ms Grace Owinga also spoke at the ceremony. The school is the sixth Primary school to receive a fully equipped computer lab under the Westlands Computer Labs Project sponsored by Hon Tim Wanyonyi, in partnership with other private stakeholders. The MP urged other partners in the ICT sector to participate in the project so that more children can benefit.
